5. Papago Park

Papago Park: A Desert Classic

Papago Park is the typical Arizona location for anyone looking to capture that classic desert landscape.

Known for its unique red rock formations, including the famous “Hole-in-the-Rock,” this spot is perfect for seniors who want a natural backdrop that highlights Arizona’s stunning desert terrain.

Good to Know:

Best Season: Great year-round – but expect crowds especially at sunset. Aim to be there 1 hour before sunset or 20 minutes after sunrise.

Parking: Lots near “Hole in the Rock” or the second water pond are best.  Limited spots are available on East McDowell Road, so arrive early.

Crowd Level: Popular at sunset and expect some walking. It’s best to arrive earlier than anticipated to snag a good spot among other visitors.

4. Downtown Phoenix

Downtown Phoenix: Modern Vibes & Cityscape Views

Best Season: Year-round. Aim to on location around 1.5 hours-2 hours before sunset or 35 minutes after sunrise depending on your shoot.

Parking: Be prepared for some hunting! Parking garages for a fee and free street spots are available, but give yourself an extra 20 minutes.

Pro Tip: Some areas require a bit of walking, so it’s great to have ideas planned out. Be sure to consider parking options, as garages and street parking may vary in price.

3. Saguaro Lake

Saguaro Lake: Lake Docks and Mountain Backdrop

Parking: Plan to park near the first or second docks for the best photo spots.

2. Usery Mountain Regional Park

It’s the ideal spot for seniors who want a natural, outdoorsy feel to their photos without straying too far from Phoenix.

 Good to Know:

Best Season: Spring and fall seasons for the best light and temperature. Spring also brings flowers in full effect! Aim to be on location 45 minutes before sunset or 15 minutes after sunrise.

Parking: Usery has a smaller parking area at Merkle Trailhead. Plan to arrive early to get the best light and avoid any crowds!

Fee: $7 entrance fee per vehicle (fee will be added to the invoice for photographers vehicle).

Lost Dutchman State Park: Desert Oasis in Phoenix

Coming in at the top spot, Lost Dutchman State Park is a must-visit for seniors who want the ultimate Arizona landscape.

Parking: There’s plenty of parking in the park. It is a hotspot for photos at sunset so still arrive early to find a good spot.

Fee: $7 entrance fee per vehicle.
