Grabbing that celebratory drink at The Rose Garden or post-shoot appetizers at The Vig has never been easier.

Our Favorite Urban Spots in Phoenix

You don’t need to drive all over the valley to get a variety of stunning shots since some of the city’s most photogenic locations are just blocks apart. 

Soft and romantic, or bold and architectural, here are a few go-to downtown phoenix photo-ops that never miss. 

🕍 The Abbey on Monroe

With its beautiful arches, cathedral-style doors, and creamy stone palette, this historic landmark adds just the right amount of old-money romance to your urban engagement shoot.

There’s tons of soft light surrounded by dramatic detail. Perfect if you love more intimate portraits.

🏛 Maricopa County Old Courthouse

Think gold doors, grand staircases, and crisp, clean lines. 

This spot brings an elevated, editorial feel to your gallery. 

We love using the reflective surfaces and spacious steps for wide-angle shots that feel both bold and timeless.

🔬 Arizona Science Center + Heritage Square

This modern corner of downtown gives clean architecture, artful installations, and minimalist backdrops—all within a short walk.

Classic Elegance: The Engagement of Kalea & Jaydon

Plus, the nearby Heritage Square adds a pocket of greenery, red brick charm, and nostalgic city park vibes.

• The Rose Garden Bar – A stylish cocktail bar with vintage flair and lush floral touches; note that a permit must be obtained in advance for photo sessions.
• St. Mary’s Basilica – A stunning historic church with Spanish Revival architecture and serene courtyards, offering timeless backdrops.

The Best Time to Shoot Downtown?

Morning sessions offer a stronger light, great for clarity and with fewer crowds! You can even beat all the cars in the early morning. 

Golden hour is my personal favorite. The soft and flattering light creates a dreamy, ethereal portrait that works every time. 

Bringing the session into the later evening creates opportunity for city lights (and across the skyline if you’re in the right place)!

What to Wear Downtown

In an urban setting, chic-neutral outfits work beautifully. 

Think earth tones, black and whites, denim, or even trendy pops of your favorite color work great. 

It’s great to have options, so bring one dressy and one casual outfit for variety. 

Don’t forget to bring comfortable shoes as a backup pair for walking between spots!

Tips for A Smooth Downtown Phoenix Engagement Session

• Park in one spot to walk around to hit locations easily. 
• Schedule your session for a weekday slot to avoid crowds.
• Bring water- especially for warmer mornings and evenings. 
• Bring a tote bag for any personal items so you don’t have to carry bulky things in your pockets.
